This week Anne and Kat announce their adventure to embark on a quest to find the perfect mascara, share funny client stories, discuss our fave new products as well as an old movie fave and beauty bullies in our industry.
Have you ever seen Big Trouble in Little China? This happens to be a top 5 favorite movie for both of us!!
In this episode: Kat has a client with beautiful green eyes who, when making a reference to BTILC realized her reference fell short when she heard the client say that she’d never seen the movie. womp womp
But Kat does make it a point to emphasize how this client 100% needed to see it and SO DO YOU.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Matt Groening is from Portland and went to Evergreen State College? Did you also know that you can find our favorite restaurant AND see a tour of “Simpsons” Landmarks while you’re in town? Well now you do: Click Here to take a “Simpsons” tour in Portland, OR
This week’s beverage (which you hear us clinking around) comes straight from our #1 favorite restaurant in Portland – Pok Pok. Everything, I am not kidding…..everything they make is delicious, including this drink “Apartment 3G” (Kat even loves it and isn’t a fan of Gin).
The drink has an essential ingredient called, drinking vinegar which is great for a variety of beverages, definitely worth picking up to try in your other staple cocktails!
Kat’s Faves this week: (available at Ulta because she LOVES to shop there for the points!)
This longwear lip is affordable AND it doesn’t dry you out too much. Definitely something Kat keeps in own personal makeup bag! Bomb Ass Brows, a good buy for the person who is really serious about their eye brows. It comes in diverse range of colors. Ulta exclusive – so make sure you hit up the store to see it in person.
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink – Listen in on why THIS long wear lip is the bomb.
Bomb Ass Brows Kit by Benefit Cosmetics – Loved the kit, a lot of product that may not be necessary for everyone but for the brow less gals who like to swap out purses often, it’s nice to have a little something in each bag!
Anne’s Raves this week:
Isn’t this product photo amazing?? I love the way they market their boxes. Remember to head over to the referral Link provided by Anne!! Eye De Puffer – Need we say more? Great for everyone! It is a Kit STAPLE. Anne and Kat both have this in all of their kits. Like Anne mentioned, great for Rosacea, Redness, and as advertised – Blemish Prone skin.
The Allure Beauty Box: Referral Link – great brands delivered right to your doorstep monthly. Filled with brands like; Sunday Riley, Ouai (scalp and body scrub) on top of other notable brands & just happen to be the perfect size for TSA (for the ultra-chic traveler).
FAVE RAVE: Kiehls Brand (in general) because, they’re just a kick ass company putting out great product. But more specifically, the new Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Concentrate! Anne speaks on rosacea and how this has helped her skin, while they also observe the other product they love – their Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer.
Did we mention we are going to test out a whole lotta mascara? We are doing all tiers from drugstore to high end (Tom Ford and YSL) the month of March! A kind of “Mascara Madness” (not like Nordstrom) in a way. This is something that is exciting for both of us and can’t wait to share with you.
Last, we go over what has happened in recent events. We experienced an unfortunate moment in January with our business when someone in our makeup artist community decided to report us (and another beauty agency), in an attempt to throw a wrench in our business and get us shut down.
It is no surprise that competition is high in this industry, that is to be expected. But someone going that low, really kind of shook us. On the other hand, it just pushed us even more to conquer and keep going. In a freelance world, you cannot do anything alone.
We are STRONG business women, something we are very proud of and handled it. Anne mentions a great Podcast about a similar situation with a small, upcoming business when a partner decided to part ways. Nothing as extreme – however, the message of how the owners of Soul Cycle moved forward stuck and is definitely worth the listen if you have the time.
